The Civil Society – Scaling Up Nutrition in Nigeria (CS-SUNN) has organized a two-day capacity building training for stakeholders on the use of the National Nutrition Budget Tracking System (NNBTS) in Kano State. The workshop, held at Tahir Guest Palace, brought together key actors in the nutrition and health sector to strengthen accountability and improve nutrition financing outcomes across Kano State.

Speaking during a paper presentation titled “Overview of Nutrition Financing in Nigeria: State Trend Analysis Review,” an official of CS-SUNN, Jibrin Okpaji, emphasized that government interventions at all levels remain critical in addressing malnutrition and its associated challenges.

He noted that sustained investment in nutrition is essential for improving public health outcomes and reducing preventable deaths among vulnerable populations.

Okpaji further stressed the need for stakeholders to be adequately equipped with the technical knowledge required to effectively utilize the National Nutrition Budget Tracking System. According to him, effective use of the platform would strengthen advocacy efforts for increased budgetary allocations to the nutrition sector and improve transparency in resource utilization.

In his remarks, the Secretary of the CS-SUNN Katsina State Chapter, Abdulrahman Abdullahi, highlighted the importance of the Budget Tracking System and the NNBTS portal in advancing nutrition development in Nigeria.

He described the platform as a vital tool for improving evidence-based planning, monitoring, and accountability in nutrition-related interventions.

The training featured a live demonstration of the NNBTS portal, where navigation features and data entry points were extensively explained to participants by Jibrin Okpaji. Participants were also taken through practical sessions to ensure hands-on understanding of how to effectively use the system for data management and reporting.

At the end of the sessions, scorecards, analytical reports, and policy briefs were generated using sample data from the NNBTS platform. The exercise demonstrated the system’s capacity to support real-time decision-making and evidence-driven advocacy in the nutrition sector.

As part of the workshop activities, participants engaged in group work sessions where they developed state-level implementation frameworks and action plans for the effective adoption of the NNBTS.

Earlier, in his Goodwill message the CS-SUNN Coordinator in Kano Salman Mohammad urged the participants to make maximum utilization of the training geared towards achieving the objectives .

Stakeholders described the training as timely and crucial for strengthening nutrition governance and improving coordination among relevant actors in Nigeria’s nutrition ecosystem, particularly under initiatives led by CS-SUNN and partners across Nigeria.
