NAPTIP sensitizes Kano communities on ills of human trafficking

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) said it had sensitised Kano community and their leaders on the menace of human trafficking.

The Director-General of NAPTIP, Hajiya Fatima Waziri, said this on Friday in Kano at a programme tagged “Sensitisation on Societal ills of Human Trafficking, Advocacy with Traditional Institutions in six Geo-Political of Nigeria”

Waziri, represented by Mr Hassan Tahir, Director, Legal and Prosecution, NAPTIP said that the agency was established to end all forms of exploitation against human beings in the country.

According to her, the enlightenment is geared toward engaging all stakeholders in the struggle to end the menace.

She advised the public against giving out their children and wards to traffickers who lured them with promises of better life for the children.

In his presentation, Mr Abdullahi Babale, NAPTIP Kano Zonal Commander said the programme was a clarion call for stakeholders to collaborate to stop the menace of human trafficking.

Babale said the workshop would help to sensitize the public on how to report incidences of human exploitation.

He noted that the agency was all out to ensure exploitation against human beings was reduced.He further said that the agency had the constitutional backings to arrest, investigate and prosecute before the courts and ensure that justice was meted out to perpetrators.

However, Mr Ali Sabo, who spoke on behalf of the participants commended the agency for organising the sensitisation and promised to share the knowledge with orders.
