Attitudinal change among drivers and road users has been identified as a major factor of curtailing Road accidents in Nigeria.
The Sector Commander of Federal Road safety corps kano command Zubairu Mato stated this during an exclusive interview with Radio Nigeria in kano.
He said the command of the corp in kano has achieved a lot of success in 2021, especially with regards to kano being one of the commercial centers in the nation coupled with a high population.
The sector commander noted that the Command had adopted the strategy of constant patrol in all the routes that linked kano and other neighboring states which had reduced frequent occurrences of road accidents.
Zubairu Mato decried the recklessness of drivers and other road users In the kano Kaduna highway urging motorists that fly the road to change their attitudes of over speeding and violating road rules and regulations.
He maintained that the corp had embarked on massive sensitization campaigns at worship centers, motor parks geared towards enlightening drivers and road users dangers of overspeeding and violating road regulations.
” We recorded 255 crashes in 2021, at which 85 people lost their lives, 1036 people were injured while 1999 people were involved in the crashes”
Zubairu mato noted that the main challenge the corps was facing was lack of attitudinal change among drivers, He appealed to drivers to change their nonchalant attitudes while driving, avoid overseeding and dangerous overtaking.
He urged motorists in the state to ensure that they install speed limit devices on their vehicles aimed at addressing the challenge of overspeeding and reckless driving.
