CITAD CALLS FOR HASTY ADOPTION OF LAWS TO PROTECT WOMEN, GIRLS.

The centre for information technology and development {CITAD}urge the state government to hastily adopt laws to protect women and girls.

The Gender Project Program Officer, Zainab Aminu made the plea on Thursday, in Kano during a monthly press conference on the need to address gender-based violence in kano state.

She said the Child Protection Bill and the modification of the Kano State Penal Code should be given due consideration, she also stamped the need to establish Referral Centers and Forensic Centers for victims.

CITAD commended the efforts of traditional and religious leaders and all stakeholders in intensifying their effort to create awareness against Gender Based Violence. And also commended FIDA (Federation of Women Lawyers, Kano) for their efforts in seeking justice and rehabilitation of survivors so far.

Tne CITAD program officer, stressed that while monitoring continues, there’s an urgent and relentless appeal to parents, relatives and others to always report cases to the various to either directly to us or to other sister NGOs as well as to government agencies

“Gender Based Violence strives when we all keep quiet. We cannot win the battle against it unless every perpetrator is brought to the books” she confirmed

Adding that “Keeping silent will not protect the victims who suffer. It encourages the perpetrators to take this silence as a stamp of acceptability”

CITAD asserted that the monitoring and reporting of these violence cases have really increased awareness amongst individuals and the society at large, and hoping to intensify the center’s efforts in creating more awareness in all areas and communities within the state.
