The Minister for Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farooq has presented feeding utensils to Yobe state government for distribution to the two hundred and forty eight schools participating in the National Home Grown school Feeding Programme of the federal Government in the state.
Presenting the items during a brief ceremony at Njiwaji Primary School, Damaturu, Hajiya Sadiya Farouk explain that the intervention was one of the several strategic plans of the ministry to ensure the targeted pupils have best experience of hygiene and safety during consumption of the free meals.
The National Home Grown Feeding Programme is one of the four key interventions of the federal government under the National Social Investment Programme that seek to boost school enrollment,nutrition and local economic activities across communities.
Currently, there are over nine million pupils and over one hundred cooks under the programme.
The Minister for Humanitarians Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq represented by the Assistant Director Braille Library, Bauchi Hassan Maidugu assured of continued improvement in quality of service delivery on all social interventions.
The minister also announced that an operational review was underway, fully supported by experts with a view to capitalized on the gains and benefits such as women empowerment, supporting girl child education,creating employment among others.
While receiving the feeding utensils, Yobe state governmenor represented by Bulau Aisami Geidam said the school feeding programme has helped in creating chain of jobs opportunities in addition to boosting school enrollment.
Governor Buni further urged the benefitting schools to make good use of the food utensils for maximum befit.
There are currently one hundred and three thousand nine hundred and twenty nine pupils with seven hundred and seventy four cooks serving two hundred and forty eight schools participating in the National Homegrown school feeding programme in Yobe state.
