Muslim Foundation applaud Supreme Court judgement on hijab

The Muslim Youths Foundation of Southern Kaduna (MYFOSKA) applaud the Supreme Court of Nigeria’s final verdict on the use of hijab by female Muslim students.

In a statement signed by its national secretary, Shu’aibu D. Abdullaji, MYFOSKA acknowledged that the judgment is a victory for all Muslims and peace loving citizen in the country.

“There is no doubt that justice for Muslim women, which until now appeared impossible to attain, has now prevailed and light triumphed darkness in the end. It could be recalled that many battles had been fought over the seeming injustice, which deprived many Muslim women and girls of their right to wear hijab to schools and places of work as encouraged by their religion.

The group said they cannot forget the effort of Late Chief Gani Adetola Kazeem (SAN), a human rights lawyer, will forever be remembered for initiating the first legal battle against the Lagos state Government in 2013, over an attempt to deprive a female student of her right to cover her nudity by wearing Hijab in school.

“This is indeed, a posthumous victory to Chief Gani Adetola Kazeem and all other promoters of peaceful co-existence. In addition the judgment is an assertion of the fundamental human right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion, which has been enshrined in both the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) and the article 18, of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The statement said wearing Hijab to Muslim women is not only a religious obligation, but one of the surest way of preventing oneself from the wrath of God and agony of the hell fire, as Hijab is a symbol of modesty, decency and chastity and an act of worship.

MYFOSKA congratulated the Muslims on this victory and pray that Almighty to guide us in the right path, “We also pray Allah to grant Chief Gani Adetola Kazeem eternal rest and all those who contributed in for this success.” Added the statement
