Passing Local Government Autonomy Bill , Pivotal to addressing Numerous Challenges in the Country – Clerk KNHA

The clerk of kano state House of Assembly Alhaji Garba Bello Gezawa has reassured the commitment of the Assembly ensuring that the local Government became a reality.

Gezawa stated this during a  the one day session with media partners on the sensitization around the need for follow up on the Ratification of local government Autonomy Bill by the states legislature organised by the partnership to engage, reform and learn (PERL).

Represented by Muhammad Lawal Tijjani said passing the local government Autonomy Bill into law Will not only change the present narratives of the local government system in the state but also help to enhance the socio- economic viability of the people and address some of the insecurity challenges in the state.

“My dear participants, Kano state House of Assembly Will continue to accord you with all the necessary support in this struggle. I wish to also reaffirm our commitment and readiness to collaborate with you in ensuring the success of this struggle”

 ” I will always  be ready and available to receive you in my office and lead you on a advocacy visit to the leaders of the House towards actualization of this effort” the clerk added.

In his welcome address, the state partnership facilitator (PERL) Yunusa Hamza said they were in Kano to support the media partners for the need of calling for the state legislature to call for the Ratification of local government Autonomy which has been done by the national assembly.

Yunusa Hamza maintained that , if the local government Autonomy was actualized the people at the grassroots level would  benefit from good  governance, adding that some blockages can be address at the grassroot level.

In his paper presentation a veteran journalist Dr. Maude Rabi’u Gwadabe said out of 36 States assembly of the federation only 9 states of Assembly passed the Bill into law stressing that it needs Two Third of passage in the 36 assemblies  before it become a law in the country.

Dr. Maude Rabi’u Gwadabe stressed the need for media organisation to expedite action in mobilizing the state house of Assembly to pass the bill withbaimmod ensuring that governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje Accent the bill it into law.

During the event, Nafisa Murtala and Nasiru Yusuf Ibrahim made the presentation on why local government Autonomy? And proposed Amendment in the ongoing constitutional review.
