Kano state fire says 73 people lost their lives due to different disasters from January to June 2022
The public relations officer of the agency,SFS Saminu Yusif Abdullahi made the disclosure during an interview with journalists in Kano
According to him,over twenty sheeps and goats were burnt to ashes during a fire outbreak at Anguwar Gyartai,Kunchi local government area.
The public relations officer maintained that over five hundred people and fourty domestic animals were saved during the period under review.
He explained that from January to June 2022,Kano state fire service recieved 548 fire calls, 366 rescue calls and 113 false alarms.
Saminu Yusif noted that, properties worth over two hundred and fifty million naira was destroyed while five hundred and fourty three million naira worth of properties were saved by the fire fighters.
He pointed out that most of those who lost their lives was as a result of inferno,local swimming, drowning,sand excavation, collapsed buildings among others.
The public relations officer said those rescued include two year old Fatima Lawan and her elder sister who fell into a well at Dan Gawo village Bichi local government area of the state.
Meanwhile ,Kano state fire service had promoted twenty three staff to the rank of assistant chief fire superintendant while two hundred and twenty six were decorated as senior fire superintendant in the month of April 2022.
Saminu Yusif said the agency is working asidiously to mitigate inferno and other similar incidents in the state.
He charged the general public to abide by safety regulations to avoid gas explosions,collapsed buildings,fire outbreak, electric fault and other environmental hazards.
