CITAD calls for the establishment of a gender abuse monitoring unit in education institutions.

The center for information technology and development(CITAD) calls for the establishment of a gender abuse monitoring unit in higher education institutions, the ministry of education, and its parasites totals responsible for monitoring educational activities at various levels.

The gender officer, CITAD Zainab Aminu made the call today (Thursday) during the monthly press conference on the need of addressing Gender-Based Violence in Kano state.

She added that it’s apt for the government as part of the CITAD recommendations to domesticate the child’s protection bill or review the existing penal code as well as the establishment of special courts for trying perpetrators of gender-based violence.

” In comparison to with the data obtained in the previous month, there is a visible decline in reported cases, adding that 100 cases were reported as compared to the 140 cases reported in the previous month, she said.

Zainab also stressed that as much as CITAD continues to monitor and report, an urgent appeal is brought forth particularly to parents, relatives, guardians, caregivers, and all and sundry to report cases to the various agencies handling GBV cases.

She also said that keeping silent would not help matters, which the perpetrators would consider as authorization of acceptability.
