Non State Actors Consultative Forum(NOSACOF) a Non-governmental Organization(NGO) has called on Citizens of the country to guard against acceding to what it described as a ploy being orchestrated by the National Assembly(NASS)  aimed to impeach the President.

Speaking at a press conference in Kano Wednesday,  the lead convener, Malam Abdulrazak Alkali said the promoters of the impeachment saga  neither  have the numbers  nor the facts and incontrovertible evidence   to successfully impeach the President adding that it is imperative for well-meaning Citizens not to allow themselves to be cajoled by the selfish interest of the few whose action could only worsen the present fragile situation.

According to him section 143 of the 1999 Constitution as amended have outlined the steps and guidelines to be followed in impeaching a sitting President stressing that it is important for Nigerians  to exercise caution and allow democratic  process to take place through proper electoral transition.

He said”  we can all agree that  the current security problems of Nigeria today, have been as a result of accumulation of incompetence, selfishness, greed, injustice and corruption perpetrated by mostly political leaders who are shielded by ethnic and religious entities, a weak and corrupt justice system and to some extent by common citizens”.

” It would be unjust to heap the largest chunk of the blame on the shoulders of the president whatever  were his weaknesses.  the legislators should rather focus on finding real solutions of making citizens-oriented legislations that would give succour to the current  spate of insecurity permeating the nation” he added.

“They have failed to carry out the oversight functions on respective security arms of the government despite billions of dollars budgeted for security, instead majority of them have focused their attention on befriending the heads of these agencies in the chase for getting contracts and other pecuniary gains” he posited.

“We have come to realize the move to impeach the President as orchestrated by mostly members of the ruling APC who had lost out at the primaries. most of those in the fore front of the impeachment struggle are agents of  some defeated candidates that would benefit   if the President is  impeached. there are others supporting the impeachment out of sheer frustration to pull down the APC  after they failed to return to  the red chamber, having been defeated in the contest”. he stated.

“Amidst all these turbulence,  the legislative chambers are mostly full of epic dramas due to the incompetent behaviour of  some legislators, a dangerously new twist have started to unfold in the National Assembly, where  some members of the opposition and some disgruntled members of the ruling party are making moves for the impeachment of the President, fuelling accusations and sentiments against the President and his team in order to have the backing and support of Nigerians” he revealed.
