The Chairman of Shongom Local Government Area of Gombe state, Yohanna Nahari, has called on government agencies concerned and well-to-do individuals to come to the aid of the people of the Diga area that have been affected by the flood.
Yohanna Nahari made the call while speaking to journalist when he visited the affected area.
According to the chairman, the people of the Diga area are in urgent need of any assistance as the heavy rains of Monday have caused a massive flood that has not been experienced in the area for almost Thirty-Five years, washing away their farms and almost all houses that have been made out of Mud.
Yohanna Nahari called on the state government to revisit its contract and upgrade the Diga culverts, he also called on the federal government and Triacta Company handling the Diga bridge under construction to also upgrade it to contain such an amount of water in the future.
While speaking, to newsmen, the Head of Diga area, Jauro Kabiru Jibunu attested that for close to 40 years there has not been such an incident in the area and pleaded for quick intervention as they are left with nothing.
Jauro Kabiru also called the people to be patient and see the incident as something predetermined, he, however, said they might have to move permanently from the worst affected areas.
Radio Nigeria reports that many areas in Gombe state have been affected by the heavy rains of Monday, and they include, parts of Burunde, Dubai quarters, and some parts of the Biu Bypass area amongst others.
