The Kano State commissioner for local government Lamin Sani Zawiyya reiterated the state government stemming from the tide of open defecation by fighting the scarcity of public toilets.
The commissioner made the remarks today[ Wednesday] during the monthly routine event for sanitary items distribution to the 44 local government areas in the state, which was conducted at the Ministry’s conference room.
Zawiyya said that all the efforts of providing public toilets in the state are geared to complement the federal government’s zeal to hand over the baton to another country since Nigeria is currently occupying the front seat of the world’s most open defecations country.
The commissioner was represented by the director of Water, Environmental Sanitation and Hygiene W.E.S.H. Alh Nuhu Yahaya Amasaye.
He added that currently, three local governments were open-defecations free and cleared areas, including the Dambatta, Garko, and Wudil local governments respectively.
” As at now, the more local government of the state would be earmarked for aggressive campaigns whincludeudes the societal reorientation, educating the public about how the open defecations, attitudes, apart from the health hazards, reduces the country of becoming a degraded and laughing stock among the comity of the nation,” He said.
The commissioner stressed that to build the toilets in the needed public places that fell short of having public convenience outlets, 500,000 Naira were earmarked in each locality.
The Commissioner then implored the general public to help the federal government in this campaign for curving the menace to open defecation across the whole federation.
