The federal road safety corps has charged motorist and road users to adhere strictly to the road rules and regulations, aimed at having an accident free Ember Month.
The Acting Corps Marshal DCM Dauda Ali Biu stated this during the Ember month Flagg off Rally for drivers and road users organized by Kano state sector command , held at ‘Yankaba motor park.
He said this year’s yuletide celebration presents another opportunity to demonstrate the commitment to issues of road safety not only in kano State, but Nigeria in general.
He said yuletide is one of the periods when Nigerians travel across the length and breadth of the country, especially the Christian faithful’s, hence massive enlightenment on the importance of abiding by road rules and regulations was imperative.
“The reason for this movement is not farfetched going by our history. The end of the year season provide opportunities for our sons and daughters to come home for family reunion, meetings, festivals and ceremonies, just to mention but a few.”
“The Acting directed that Mobile Courts sittings be conducted throughout the period across the federation. The Corps will also pay first-rate focus on Effective Traffic control, Failure to install/use Speed Limiting Device by Commercial vehicles, Overloading, Lane Indiscipline, Driver’s Licence violation, Removal of rickety vehicles on the roads and other obstructions, Driving with expired/worn out tyres and without a spare tyre.”
“The Acting Corp Marshal had given a matching order that all hands must be on deck to ensure free flow of traffic, reduction in road crashes, improved enforcement of traffic laws, and improved enlightenment on the proper use of roads in Nigeria as a Country to trend down road traffic fatalities by 15%.”
Speaking while declaring the campaign opened governor Abdullahi umar Ganduje represented by the commissioner for Housing Alhaji Saleh Kausani applauded the commitment of the FRSC for initiating the campaign.
He assured government support in ensuring that road accidents were being reduced to the minimal level, and urged drivers and other road users to abide by road rules and
The event was graced by members of the NURTW, Drivers , Road users, security agencies and other stakeholders.
