The National Petroleum Company Limited Group Managing Director, Mele Kyari, on Wednesday alleged that oil thieves were after his life.
The Nation reports that Kyari revealed this at a one-day Legislative Transparency and Accountability Summit organised by the House of Representatives Committee on Anti-Corruption.
He said the discovery of about 295 illegal connections to oil pipelines has resulted in death threats to him.
Kyari was silent on who made the threats and said nothing about reporting the matter to security agencies.
Kyari said the Company has discovered and destroyed thousands of illegal refineries in the last few months as well as connection on the main pipeline carrying crude to the terminal for export.

He also dismissed the threat to his life as a none issue because “every human being will die someday”.
Kyari said NNPCL destroyed thousands of illegal refineries in the last few months.
A connection to the main pipeline carrying crude to the terminal for export was also discovered, he added.
Kyari said the battle against oil thieves was yielding results as daily production has risen to about 1.4million barrels per day.
