FG Commissions Bilingual Education Boarding School in Kano to Drive Human Capital Development 

The Federal Government has commissioned the ISDB–UBEC Bilingual Education Boarding School in Kiru Local Government Area of Kano State, reaffirming its commitment to human capital development through inclusive and skills-driven education.

Speaking at the official commissioning, the Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, said sustained investment in education remains a cornerstone of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s transformation agenda, aimed at equipping Nigerian children with relevant skills for global competitiveness.

Professor Suwaiba explained that the establishment of bilingual model schools across the country reflects the Federal Government’s resolve to provide learners with strong linguistic foundations alongside vocational and digital competencies. She noted that multilingual education enhances students’ ability to function effectively in diverse social and economic environments.

She added that the initiative is also designed to tackle the challenge of out-of-school children while improving learning outcomes through modern teaching methods, calling on the Kiru community to take ownership of the facility to guarantee its sustainability.

In her remarks, the Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Aisha Garba, said the Kiru school is one of 30 Bilingual Education Model Schools under construction in nine states nationwide, with Kano State hosting four—located in Doguwa, Ganduje, Ungoggo and Kiru.
According to her, the schools combine English and Arabic literacy with Technical and Vocational Education, ICT-based learning and secure boarding facilities.

Each school, she said, is designed to accommodate over 1,000 students with full academic, residential and support infrastructure.

Aisha Garba described the commissioning as clear evidence of the Federal Government’s determination to guarantee safe, inclusive and quality education for every Nigerian child, assuring continued UBEC support in teacher deployment, school management and monitoring.

Also speaking, the Director-General, Corporate Services of the Islamic Development Bank, Dr Mohammed Simsim, alongside Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf—represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Faruk Ibrahim—pledged sustained collaboration to ensure optimal utilisation of the school, which is expected to expand access to quality education and significantly reduce the number of out-of-school children in Kano State and beyond.
