The Kano State Police Command has arrested four suspects and recovered quantities of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa during separate intelligence-led operations aimed at curbing drug trafficking and abuse in the state.

The arrests followed the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on sustained intelligence-driven patrols across the country.

On January 25, 2026, at about 3:00 p.m., police officers attached to the Fagge Police Division intercepted a tricycle at Triumph Roundabout during a surveillance patrol.

A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 157 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa concealed in two sacks.

Two suspects, identified as Amadu Ado and Salisu Lurwanu, both males from Kulliya Village in Bunkure Local Government Area of Kano State, were arrested in connection with the seizure.

In a related operation on January 24, 2026, at about 5:25 p.m., operatives of the Command’s Rapid Response Team (RRT) conducted raids on identified black spots within the Kano metropolitan area.

The operation resulted in the arrest of two other suspects, Usman Hamisu, 22, and Auwal Abdullahi, 25.
Items recovered from the suspects included 40 pieces of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa, 20 pieces of rubber solution, half a roll of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa, and 10 small bottles of a substance locally referred to as “Suck and Die.”

The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the officers involved in the operations and urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines.

The Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to combating drug trafficking and abuse, assuring the public of sustained efforts to maintain safety and security across Kano State.

The information was contained in a statement issued on January 27, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police.
