Admin 2 months ago

The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man, Ididiong James, for allegedly assaulting his mother and being in possession of a firearm in Panshekara Quarters, Kano.

According to a press release issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the incident occurred on January 25, 2026, at about 7:30 p.m., when police officers attached to Panshekara Division responded to a distress call from the area.

On arrival, the officers discovered that the suspect had allegedly attacked his mother at their residence. The suspect reportedly fled the scene on sighting the police. His mother, however, handed over an English Berreta pistol with eight rounds of ammunition, which she said she found in her son’s bag.

She explained that she refused to return the firearm to him, an action that allegedly triggered the violent assault. The woman also expressed concern over what she described as a noticeable change in her son’s behaviour since his return from a New Year celebration.

The suspect was later arrested and is currently in police custody while investigations continue.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the courage of the mother for standing up against violence and cooperating with the police.

He urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and closely monitor the activities of their children.
CP Bakori also called on members of the public to report suspicious activities promptly to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines.

The Kano State Police Command reassured residents of its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
