The Goron Dutse Custodial Centre has marked its 100 years of dedicated service to the nation with a grand centenary celebration held at the Centre’s premises in Kano.

The historic event brought together serving and retired officers, dignitaries, and representatives of sister security agencies to reflect on a century of correctional administration, institutional reforms and community engagement.

In a series of lectures delivered during the celebration, retired senior officers, former Officers-in-Charge and Chief Warders shared insights into the evolution of the Centre from its formative years to its present-day operations.

The speakers highlighted the steady transformation of the facility in line with modern correctional philosophies and global best practices.

Established a century ago, the Centre has remained a critical institution in maintaining law and order in Kano State, aligning its operations with the reform-driven mandate of the Nigerian Correctional Service.

Over the years, it has transitioned from a conventional custodial facility to a reformation-focused institution committed to rehabilitation, vocational training, educational advancement and the reintegration of inmates into society.

Speaking at the event, the Controller of Corrections, Kano State Command, Ahmed Yusuf Lakpene, represented by the Officer-in-Charge of the Centre, ACC Kafilu Abdullahi, expressed appreciation to the Controller-General of Corrections, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, for what he described as transformative leadership and strategic direction for the Service.

He commended the Controller-General’s commitment to staff welfare, implementation of promotion arrears and sustained efforts toward career progression across the Service, noting that such initiatives had boosted morale and strengthened institutional efficiency.
