The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies in Kano State have declared full readiness for the by-elections scheduled to hold on Saturday in Kano Municipal and Ungogo Local Government Areas.

The Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu , disclosed this while briefing journalists shortly after a strategic meeting with the INEC management team in Kano.

He said a joint security arrangement involving the police and other security agencies has been put in place to guarantee a peaceful and credible exercise.

According to him, adequate personnel have been deployed across polling units, collation centres and other critical points within the two local government areas to prevent any breakdown of law and order.

CP Adamu announced that movement will be restricted in Kano Municipal and Ungogo from 12.00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on election day.

He explained that the restriction is aimed at ensuring smooth conduct of the electoral process and preventing the movement of unauthorized persons and materials during voting hours.

He warned political actors and supporters against engaging in violence, vote-buying, intimidation or any other unlawful activities, stressing that offenders would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

On its part, INEC assured residents of its preparedness for the exercise. The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Kano State, Ambassador Abdu Zango, commended the security agencies for their collaboration and proactive measures.

Ambassador Zango confirmed that the commission has completed the deployment of both sensitive and non-sensitive materials to the affected areas. He expressed confidence that the logistical arrangements put in place would ensure a seamless voting process.
