The Kano State Social Protection Agency (KASPA) has appealed to wealthy individuals, corporate organizations and non-governmental organizations to support more than 1.7 million vulnerable persons captured in the agency’s database as the holy month of Ramadan approaches.
The appeal was made by the Director-General of KASPA, Dr. Fateema Abubakar Abdullahi (Amneef), during a management meeting held at the agency’s headquarters in Kano.
Dr. Fateema said many families across the state face severe challenges during Ramadan due to poverty and rising living costs, making it difficult for them to meet basic needs such as food and healthcare.
She stressed the need for collective compassion and shared responsibility to reduce the hardship faced by the poor and vulnerable, especially during Ramadan, a period dedicated to kindness, sacrifice and care for others.
The KASPA Director-General commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his commitment to social welfare, particularly the state’s Ramadan feeding programme, which she described as a major source of relief and hope for thousands of struggling households.
She also highlighted the ongoing free healthcare programme jointly implemented by KASPA and the Kano State Contributory Health Management Agency (KACHMA), noting that it currently provides medical services to over 20,000 orphans and senior citizens across the state.
According to her, extending support to vulnerable persons during Ramadan goes beyond charity, describing it as a moral obligation aimed at preserving human dignity and protecting those most in need.
Dr. Fateema called on individuals and organizations willing to support or benefit from KASPA’s programmes to contact the agency for further engagement, while reaffirming KASPA’s commitment to strengthening social protection systems and ensuring that no vulnerable citizen is left behind, particularly during critical periods such as Ramadan.
