In a renewed push to strengthen evidence-based governance, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has commenced a nationwide data collection exercise across the 36 states of the federation, with Kano State hosting a high-level delegation supervising the process.
The delegation, led by the Statistician-General of the Federation and Chief Executive Officer of the NBS, includes senior officials of the bureau and representatives of key development partners such as UNICEF and the World Bank.
Among them are UNICEF Representative Mr. Wayne A. Bacale and Dr. Onoriode Ezire, Senior Health Specialist and Task Team Leader of the World Bank-supported IMPACT Project.
During their visit to Kano, the team was received by the Director-General of the Kano State Bureau of Statistics and later paid courtesy calls on the State Commissioner for Health and the Governor of Kano State.
Discussions focused on the importance of reliable statistics in shaping policies, guiding public spending and improving service delivery.
The officials emphasized that accurate and timely data are essential for effective planning in critical sectors including health, education, agriculture and economic development.
They noted that the exercise would generate credible information to support informed decision-making at both federal and state levels.
As part of the monitoring activities, the delegation visited Danbagina, Jigawar Alhaji Ado village in Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area, where they inspected field operations and interacted with enumerators collecting household data.
Speaking during the visit, the Head of Danbagina Village, Malam Sa’adu Bako, commended the initiative and assured the delegation of the community’s cooperation, noting that reliable data would help attract development projects and improve social services in rural communities.
