NSCDC Kano Denies Recruitment, Trains Volunteers for Improved Service Delivery

The Kano State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has dismissed reports circulating in some quarters that the corps is currently recruiting regular staff, describing the information as false and misleading.

In a press release dated February 26, 2026, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SC Ibrahim Idris Abdullahi, stated that the attention of the management was drawn to rumours alleging that the corps had commenced recruitment in Kano State.

He categorically stated that the NSCDC is not recruiting regular personnel but is instead training its volunteer staff to enhance effective and efficient service delivery.

The statement explained that when the current State Commandant assumed office in November 2025, he inherited over 10,000 volunteers within the command. It noted that reports of unethical conduct and actions inconsistent with established service standards by some volunteers had negatively impacted the image of the corps.

To address these concerns, the command initiated a comprehensive screening exercise which reduced the number of volunteers from 10,000 to 3,000 for better supervision and management. The move, according to the statement, was aimed at restoring discipline and professionalism within the ranks.

The command further disclosed that the screened volunteers are currently undergoing training at the state headquarters to equip them with the basic knowledge and operational guidelines of the service.

Upon completion of the training programme, participants will be issued certificates of attendance, identification numbers and official identity cards.
According to the statement, the training is designed to curb cases of unethical behaviour among volunteers and to prevent the activities of impersonators who commit crimes under the guise of being civil defence personnel.

The command reassured members of the public that its doors remain open to anyone seeking clarification regarding volunteer activities, urging citizens to disregard the false recruitment claims.
