The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced a large-scale voter enlightenment campaign at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano, aimed at encouraging residents to revalidate their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of upcoming electoral activities.
The INEC Enlightened Officer of INEC in Kano Garba Ashiru disclosed while briefing journalist in Kano.
He said the initiative, which targets all eight metropolitan local government areas in Kano State, is designed to raise public awareness on the importance of voter participation and the need for eligible citizens to ensure their registration details are up to date.
Garba Ashiru maintained that the campaign seeks to mobilize the electorate and promote increased turnout during elections by educating citizens on the electoral process and their civic responsibilities.
He explained that the enlightenment programme would run for a period of seven days, during which various activities, including public sensitization sessions and community engagements, would be carried out across the metropolitan areas.
According to the officer, the exercise is being conducted in collaboration with the Kano State Government to ensure wider reach and effectiveness in achieving its objectives.
He further noted that the partnership underscores the shared commitment of both INEC and the state government to strengthening democratic participation and ensuring that no eligible voter is left out of the process.
Residents have been urged to take advantage of the campaign by turning out in large numbers to revalidate their voter cards and obtain accurate information that will enable them to participate fully in the democratic process.
