The Kebbi State Police Command has launched a comprehensive statewide clearance operation following deadly attacks in Shanga Local Government Area that left 44 people dead.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists in Birnin Kebbi on April 10, 2026.

According to the statement, the operation is in line with directives from the Inspector-General of Police to prevent and combat banditry and other violent crimes across the state.

The police said the Command responded swiftly to coordinated attacks on several villages, including Gebe, Kalkami, Kawara, Kasoshi, Awaye, Tungar Rini, Binuwa and Dabe in Shanga LGA.

Following the attacks, the Command deployed personnel alongside other security agencies to the affected areas, restoring relative calm, while investigations have commenced.

SP Usman said the ongoing clearance operation targets high-risk areas such as farmlands, forests, border communities and remote settlements.

He added that the operation includes coordinated patrols, intelligence-led stop-and-search activities and joint operations with other security agencies.

As part of the operation, the police recovered two AK-47 rifles along the Illo-Kamba axis, highlighting the impact of intelligence-driven policing.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Umar Hadejia, urged residents to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities and cooperate with security agencies.

He also called on traditional rulers, community leaders, religious organisations and youth groups to provide timely and credible information to support ongoing efforts to restore peace.
