Aspirant for the Gumel/Maigatari/Gagarawa/Sule-Tankarkar Federal Constituency seat under the All Progressives Congress (APC), retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Usaini Gumel, has denied accepting any consensus arrangement ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Gumel, in a statement addressed to his supporters, said reports circulating on some online media platforms suggesting that he had accepted the outcome of a consensus process were misleading.
He stated that as of now, he had not received any official communication from the state leadership of the party regarding the conclusion or outcome of consultations on the selection of a candidate for the constituency.
The retired DIG reaffirmed his loyalty and commitment to the APC, stressing that he remained dedicated to the unity, stability, and overall success of the party at all levels.
He, however, noted that consensus, as practiced in democratic settings, should be based on consultations, mutual understanding, and engagement among stakeholders and aspirants, and not through imposition without proper communication.
Gumel called on his supporters to remain calm, peaceful, and law-abiding while awaiting official clarification from the party, urging them not to be swayed by rumours or misinformation.
He also expressed appreciation to the people of Gumel, Gagarawa, Maigatari, and Sule Tankarkar for their continued support, prayers, and confidence, assuring them of his commitment to the development of the constituency.
