Kabiru Alhassan Rurum, the former Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Sarkin Sasa, Alhaji Haruna Maiyasin Katsina.
Rurum described the late monarch as a unifying figure in the Arewa community in Southern Nigeria, whose leadership, wisdom, and service will be greatly missed.
In a condolence message, Rurum acknowledged Sarkin Sasa’s role as Chairman of the Council of Arewa Traditional Rulers in the 17 Southern States of Nigeria.
He noted that the late monarch’s demise at the age of 125 marks the end of an era, and his legacy will never be forgotten.
Rurum, who is currently a member of the House of Representatives, representing Rano, Kibiya, and Bunkure Federal Constituency, recalled his personal relationship with Sarkin Sasa.
He remembered how the late monarch was a pillar of support during his early days in public service, offering guidance and encouragement when Rurum was elected Councillor of Ward ‘F’ in Kosofe Local Government Area of Lagos State in 1997.
Rurum praised Sarkin Sasa’s commitment to promoting unity and peaceful coexistence among different ethnic groups.
He extended his condolences to the late monarch’s family, the people of Sasa, the Hausa community in the South, and the Arewa Traditional Council. Rurum prayed that the Almighty Allah would forgive Sarkin Sasa’s shortcomings and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.
