Tinubu Mourns Kano Contingent,Orders Emergency Response to Mokwa Flood Disaster

President Bola Tinubu has expressed profound grief over two devastating incidents that have shaken the nation.
A tragic road accident involving members of the Kano State contingent returning from the National Sports Festival in Ogun State has claimed lives, while severe flooding in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State has led to loss of lives and displacement of numerous families.
The President extended his heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Kano State, as well as to the families of the victims, describing the incident as a “devastating blow to the nation”.
He paid tribute to the accident victims, whose dedication and aspirations embodied the resilient Nigerian spirit.
 Tinubu affirmed that the greatest honor the country can accord them is to take concrete steps to prevent such tragedies in the future and improve safety standards across the nation’s transportation systems.¹
In response to the severe flooding in Mokwa, President Tinubu directed the immediate activation of the National Emergency Response Centre.
He has been fully briefed by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on the scale of the disaster and urgent humanitarian needs. Search-and-rescue operations are underway, with all relevant federal agencies mobilized to support the Niger State Government’s response.
Relief materials and temporary shelters are being deployed without delay.
The President assured those impacted by the flood disaster that his government stands with them, promising a swift, coordinated, and compassionate response.
He directed security agencies to assist in emergency operations and mandated NEMA and the National Emergency Response Centre to provide continuous coordination and updates.
 Tinubu called on all Nigerians to keep the people of Mokwa in their thoughts and prayers, emphasizing that “in times of adversity, we draw strength from our unity, resilience, and shared humanity”.
The Federal Government has mobilized resources to support rescue and relief efforts in Mokwa.
NEMA, in coordination with the Niger State Government, is leading the response efforts. Relief materials and temporary shelters are being deployed to the disaster zone without delay. The government has also directed security agencies to support emergency operations.
President Tinubu prayed for the peaceful repose of the souls of the departed and asked God Almighty to grant strength and comfort to the bereaved families. He extended his heartfelt condolences to the affected families and the good people of Niger State, saying, “I extend my heartfelt condolences to the affected families and the good people of Niger State at this difficult time”.
