Kano Police Bust Drug Syndicate, Arrest Six Suspects, Recover Illicit Drugs and Weapons

The Kano State Police Command has recorded another major success in its ongoing fight against drug trafficking and violent crimes with the arrest of a suspected drug dealer and five suspected thugs, alongside the recovery of illicit substances and dangerous weapons in Kano metropolis.

The breakthrough followed a targeted operation carried out on January 10, 2026, by police operatives attached to the Jaoji Police Division, Kano. During the operation, a suspected drug dealer, Hafizu Ali, a 25-year-old male of Jaoji Quarters, Kano, was arrested alongside five other suspects believed to be remnants of a notorious group of thugs terrorising parts of the state.

According to the Command, the operation was conducted under the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, sfipma, mnim, mnips, masis, in line with the strategic crime prevention guidelines issued by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM. The directives are aimed at dismantling criminal networks, curbing drug abuse and trafficking, and enhancing public safety across the country.

Items recovered from the suspected drug dealer include 2,070 capsules of suspected Pregabalin and 23 parcels of suspected Cannabis Sativa. Meanwhile, four knives, two pairs of scissors and an axe were recovered from the suspected thugs, raising concerns over their alleged involvement in violent criminal activities.

Commending the operatives for their professionalism, dedication and timely response, CP Bakori applauded officers of the Jaoji Police Division for the successful operation. He also expressed appreciation to the good people of Kano State for their continued support, cooperation and provision of useful information that aid crime-fighting efforts.

The Police Command confirmed that investigations are ongoing, after which the suspects will be charged to court accordingly.
