High Court Dismisses FG’s Charges Against Senator Natasha

An Abuja High Court has dismissed the criminal charges filed by the Federal Government against Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, bringing an end to a controversial legal case that drew nationwide attention.

The Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation submitted a Notice of Discontinuance, dated December 12, 2025, leading Judge C. N. Oji to strike out the criminal defamation and related charges. The judge emphasized the importance of exercising prosecutorial powers with restraint, hoping the decision would promote respect for the rule of law.¹ ² ³

The case stemmed from remarks Akpoti-Uduaghan allegedly made during a televised interview. Federal Government counsel confirmed the withdrawal, citing the Administration of Criminal Justice Act and the interest of justice and public confidence.

Akpoti-Uduaghan welcomed the outcome, affirming her belief in the rule of law and commitment to serving her constituents and defending democratic rights. She thanked her legal team and supporters for their unwavering support.
