Ramadan: Sen. Musa Urges Muslims to Embody Islamic Values

As Muslims across Nigeria commence the holy month of Ramadan, the lawmaker representing Niger East Senatorial District, Sani Musa, has called on the faithful to reflect the true virtues of Islam through good conduct, compassion, and service to humanity.

Sen. Musa, who also serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, made the appeal in a goodwill message made available to newsmen in Kano on Wednesday. He urged Muslim worshippers to seize the spiritual opportunity presented by Ramadan to demonstrate kindness, promote unity, and shun acts capable of harming others.

According to him, Ramadan is not merely a period of abstaining from food and drink from dawn to dusk, but a sacred season of deep reflection, moral discipline, and renewed consciousness of Allah.

“Let us use this opportunity to put the best teachings of Islam into practice, such as kindness and love for humanity,” Musa said. “This is an occasion for deep reflection, greater fear of Allah, and avoidance of all evils that harm humanity.”

The senator noted that the essence of fasting fosters empathy and equality, as both the rich and the poor experience hunger together, thereby strengthening bonds between different segments of society. He stressed that such shared experience should translate into greater compassion and generosity toward the less privileged.

“As we begin this 30-day fasting season, let us remember that Ramadan is not only about abstaining from eating and drinking, but also a reminder to refrain from all kinds of evil and transgressions that harm humanity,” he added.

Musa further encouraged Muslims to extend charity by sharing food and resources with the needy, especially during iftar, the breaking of the fast. He said acts of generosity and solidarity during Ramadan attract multiplied rewards from Allah and reinforce the Islamic principles of social justice and mutual care.

“By sharing our blessings with others, Allah will multiply our rewards for good deeds,” he stated.

The senator also used the occasion to call on Muslim faithful to pray for Nigeria’s leaders, including President Bola Tinubu, for wisdom and guidance in steering the country toward good democratic governance.

He expressed hope that the sacred month would usher in greater peace, unity, and prosperity for Nigeria, urging citizens to uphold the values of patience, self-restraint, and brotherhood beyond the Ramadan season.

As the 30-day fasting period unfolds, Musa’s message echoes a broader call for national cohesion and moral renewal, reminding the faithful that the true spirit of Ramadan lies not only in personal devotion but also in positive impact on society.
