The First Lady of Kebbi State, Zainab Nasare-Nasir Idris, has praised the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for complementing the state government’s efforts in delivering relief materials to vulnerable communities affected by insecurity.

She gave the commendation on Tuesday while flagging off the distribution of humanitarian relief items at the Government Warehouse in Bulaza, Birnin Kebbi. The First Lady described the intervention as timely and impactful, noting that it reflects genuine solidarity with communities grappling with the consequences of armed attacks.

According to her, women and children often bear the brunt of displacement and related hardships, stressing that the relief support would go a long way in alleviating their suffering. She reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting vulnerable groups and strengthening collaboration with relevant federal agencies.

Earlier in her remarks, the Director-General of NEMA, Zubaida Umar, said the intervention followed a joint assessment conducted with stakeholders to determine the scale of damage and the number of affected persons.

She explained that the agency’s response was based on verified data to ensure transparency and fairness in distribution.
Umar stated that the items were carefully selected to cushion the immediate hardship faced by affected households. She urged beneficiaries not to sell the relief materials but to use them judiciously for the wellbeing of their families.

In his remarks, the Secretary to the Kebbi State Government, Yakubu Bala-Tafida, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Office, Alhaji Nasir Abubakar-Kigo, commended NEMA for what he described as a swift and well-coordinated intervention. He said the support would significantly ease the burden on displaced and vulnerable residents.

Similarly, the Emir of Gwandu, Alhaji Muhammad Iliyasu-Bashir, represented by the Wazirin Gwandu, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar, expressed appreciation to NEMA and lauded the state government’s proactive measures. He called on citizens to continue praying for lasting peace and an end to insecurity in the state and the country at large.

The relief materials distributed by NEMA include 1,400 bags of 25kg rice, 1,400 bags of 25kg maize, 1,400 bags of 25kg beans, clothing, and other essential non-food items aimed at improving the living conditions of the affected communities.
