The Kano State Government has called on the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) to reduce the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), following the recent decline in the cost of the product.

The government also warned that it would sanction filling stations found dispensing less fuel than paid for by consumers through tampered pumps or other fraudulent practices.

The Commissioner for Internal Security and Special Services, retired AVM Ibrahim Umaru, made the call during a meeting with officials of IPMAN and other stakeholders in Kano.
Umaru said marketers should reflect the reduction in the landing cost of petrol by lowering pump prices to ease the economic burden on residents.

He said the state government would intensify monitoring of filling stations across Kano to ensure compliance with approved standards, warning that any station caught cheating customers through under-dispensing would face legal action.

The commissioner urged IPMAN to cooperate with the government in protecting consumers’ interests and ensuring fairness in the downstream petroleum sector.

Responding, IPMAN officials assured the government of their commitment to working with relevant authorities to promote transparent business practices and ensure that members comply with regulations governing the sale of petroleum products.
