The Multi-Agency Task Force Committee in Kano State has held a strategic meeting to strengthen inter-agency collaboration and intensify efforts to combat drug abuse, illicit drug trafficking and other related social vices across the state.

The meeting, held on Friday, August 21, 2026, at the Task Force Office in Kano, brought together members of the committee to review ongoing activities, assess progress and develop more effective strategies towards achieving its objectives.

The strategic engagement focused largely on the need for stronger coordination among relevant agencies involved in the fight against drug-related offences and other social challenges confronting communities in the state.

During the meeting, members deliberated on key operational issues affecting the committee’s activities, while reviewing interventions already being implemented to address drug abuse and illicit trafficking.

The committee also assessed the progress recorded so far, identified areas requiring further attention and discussed challenges limiting the effectiveness of ongoing efforts.

The meeting provided an opportunity for the participating agencies to share experiences, exchange information and explore ways of improving joint operations, intelligence gathering, public awareness and other measures aimed at reducing the availability and abuse of illicit drugs.

Members emphasised the importance of sustained collaboration among government institutions, security and law-enforcement agencies, health authorities, community organisations and other relevant stakeholders in addressing the growing threat of substance abuse.

The committee noted that the fight against drug abuse and trafficking requires a coordinated approach, particularly in a state like Kano, which serves as a major commercial and transportation hub connecting different parts of Nigeria and neighbouring countries.

Beyond enforcement, the meeting also underscored the need for preventive measures, public sensitisation and community engagement to discourage young people and other vulnerable groups from becoming involved in drug abuse and related activities.

Participants further stressed the importance of identifying emerging trends and challenges in drug trafficking and abuse, with a view to developing timely and coordinated responses.

The committee resolved to strengthen its operational framework and improve cooperation among member agencies to ensure that interventions are better coordinated and capable of producing sustainable results.

The strategic meeting is expected to contribute to a more unified approach in tackling drug abuse, illicit drug trafficking and other social vices, while strengthening the capacity of the committee to respond effectively to emerging challenges across Kano State.

The committee reaffirmed its commitment to working collectively towards creating safer communities and protecting young people from the dangers associated with drug abuse and other related social vices.
