The Kano State Police Command says it has foiled a kidnapping attempt and rescued Alhaji Yusif Nadabo, the Sarkin Noman Kano, in Garun Malam Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday in Kano.
Kiyawa said the incident occurred at about 11:30 p.m. on Aug. 29, when suspected bandits invaded Garun Malam town and started shooting sporadically into the air.
He said the hoodlums abducted Nadabo during the attack and also shot and injured three residents identified as Yusif Nasiru, 20; Salisu Garba, 20; and Ibrahim Hassan, 20, all residents of Garun Malam town.
According to him, upon receiving the distress call, the command immediately mobilised tactical and patrol teams, alongside reinforcement from neighbouring divisions, to the scene.
“The Police, in collaboration with members of the community, gave the hoodlums a hot chase, forcing them to abandon the kidnapped victim and flee the scene.
“Alhaji Yusif Nadabo was subsequently rescued unhurt,” he said.
Kiyawa said the three injured victims, alongside the rescued traditional leader, were immediately taken to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital for medical attention.
He added that the command had deployed confidence-building patrols in and around Garun Malam town to prevent further breaches of peace, while a manhunt had been launched for the fleeing suspects.
The PPRO said investigation into the incident was ongoing, adding that further developments would be communicated to the public.
The Commissioner of Police in Kano, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the prompt response of the police teams and appreciated residents, vigilante groups and members of the Neighbourhood Watch Corps for their vigilance and cooperation during the rescue operation.
Bakori urged residents to remain calm and continue providing credible information that could assist security agencies in apprehending the perpetrators.
He reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across Kano State.
