The Kano State Multi-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking has recorded significant achievements in its sustained campaign against drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking across the state.
Since its establishment, the task force has intensified operations against drug dealers and abuse hotspots, leading to the arrest of hundreds of suspected offenders, recovery of illicit substances and successful prosecution of several cases.
The task force has also strengthened collaboration with security agencies, community leaders, religious scholars, parents and other stakeholders to address the root causes of drug abuse and prevent young people from falling victim to substance addiction.
Its intervention has extended beyond enforcement, with increased emphasis on rehabilitation, counselling, awareness campaigns and skills acquisition for persons affected by drug abuse.
The initiative has also helped to draw greater public attention to the dangers of substance abuse, while encouraging families and communities to support efforts aimed at rescuing youths from addiction.
Stakeholders have therefore described the establishment of the task force as a major succour in the fight against the drug menace, noting that its activities have contributed to making communities safer and strengthening the state’s response to drug-related challenges.
The task force is expected to sustain its operations and expand its preventive, rehabilitative and enforcement programmes as part of broader efforts to build a healthier, safer and drug-free Kano.
