The Department of Otorhinolaryngology (ENT)of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital will tomorrow Saturday perform the second cochlear implant surgery in the hospital in collaboration with a medical professor from the University of Jordan, Professor Firas Alzoubi, and Professor Simeon Afolabi.
According to the statement issued by the Head of Department, Otorhinolaryngology of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital Dr. M. Ghazali Hashim said that Professor Emannuel S Kolo of the department is going to lead the surgery team in Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital.
Professor Emannuel S Kolo explained that a cochlear implant is a specialized surgery conducted by an ENT specialist to restore hearing in profoundly or severely hearing-impaired individuals.He said that last year in 2021 the surgery was conducted on a three-year-old boy from Yobe state and an Eight years old girl from Borno state respectively.
Adding that the two patients have been doing very as their hearing loss has been restored and communication flow was maintained between the families of the patients and the ENT specialists.
“On the current surgery taking place tomorrow Saturday by noon, Professor Kolo said, that it is going to be performed on a forty-two-year-old lady from Plateau state.”
He further called on all people with hearing impairment to come to the hospital in good time for proper evaluation and treatment.
