The Kano State Emergency Management Agency(SEMA) has confirmed the death of three persons and destruction of 2,250 houses by flood and windstorm in five Local Government Areas of the state in the month of June.
The Executive Secretary SEMA, Dr Saleh Jili, confirmed the incident to Radio Nigeria in Kano.
Dr. Saleh noted that out of the 2,250 house destroyed, some were completely destroyed, three persons lost their lives, two persons were injured and 3,200 people were affected due to flood and windstorm.
He explained that the affected areas include Rano, Kibiya, Doguwa, Dambatta, and Kiru local government areas
The executive secretary said, the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has
released its Seasonal Rainfall Prediction for year 2022, which had predicted high possibility of rainfall in Kano.
He said SEMA had visited the affected local government areas to sympathize with the victims on behalf of Kano State Government and distributed relief materials to alleviate their suffering.
Dr. Saleh Aliyu Jili advised residents in the state to give way for water by clearing drainage system in front of their houses to prevent flood.

It would be recalled that,last year Kano state emergency management agency (SEMA) confirmed the death of over 29 people,59 injured and destruction of 14,000 houses by flooding and other environmental hazards from January to October 2021.
Radio Nigeria reports that, SEMAboss says the agency is working assidously in collaboration with National Emergency management agency (NEMA), state disaster management committee, public education and enlightenment campaigns as well as local emergency management committees across the 44 local governments of the state to minimize disaster occurance.
