The use of local languages in our day-to-day activities has been described as a great tool for fighting the menace of corruption in society.
A University Don Dr. Nura Ibrahim stated this during a Townhall meeting organized by Wadata Media and advocacy Center in collaboration with MacArthur, Foundation held In Kano.
He said adopting the local languages in daily happenings, the challenge of corruption would be highly addressed because people would be more sensitized and enlightened on Corruption, hence they will shy away from any act of corruption.
Presenting a paper titled advantages of community participation in the campaign corruption In local language a professor of mass communication professor Hajara Umar Sanda said community participation in the fight against corruption was very crucial.
She said the participation can be direct or indirect, especially in democratic decisions.
Professor Hajara Umar Sanda noted that reporting on corruption issues to the relevant authorities can be sighted among the ways of checkmating corruption.
Earlier the project manager of wadata media and advocacy center Zubair Abdurra’uf Idris said the community has a stake in the fight against corruption.
He noted that using local languages in enlightening the general populace on the fight against corruption was very vital, to achieving the set objectives.
The town hall meeting was attended by veteran journalists, NUJ chairman, NAWOJ chairperson, working journalist, and other stakeholders.
