The independent National Electoral Commission Kano office has conferred on the oba of Yoruba in kano Engineer Murtala Alimi Otisese as peace Ambassador.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner professor Risqua Arabi Shehu Conferred the title to the Monarch at the headquarters of the commission in Kano.
He said the appointment was based on the track records of the oba of Yoruba in Kano in preaching for peace especially before, during, and after previous elections that were conducted in the state.
“Our mandate as INEC is to conduct credible elections and this can not be achieved without the contributions of stakeholders who enlightened and sensitizes the public the importance of peaceful elections, that’s why we recognized the contributions of Oba Yoruba Kano and Conferred on him the Peace Ambassador of INEC in Kano”
The resident electoral commissioner urged the new Peace Ambassador to sustain the tempo, aimed at having peaceful and credible elections come 2023.
“I am using this opportunity to thank the members of the pen profession and the entire people of the state for their support to the commission throughout my stay as Resident Electoral Commissioner as my tenure is ending on the 15th August 2022”
In his remark, the new INEC Peace Ambassador Oba of Yoruba in Kano engineer Murtala Alimi Otisese Thanked the management of INEC kano office for conferring on him the title of peace Ambassador.
He reassured his commitment to preaching for peace before, during, and after the election period.
The peace ambassadors appealed to the general populace to ensure that they exercise their constitutional rights by voting for credible leaders during the forthcoming elections.
