The Peoples Democratic Party Presidential candidate in the forthcoming general elections, Atiku Abubakar, today in his Abuja residence received in audience the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General for West Africa and the Sahel and the head of the United Nations office for West Africa and the Sahel, who are on consultation visit to Nigeria regarding the 2023 general elections.
The delegation which was led by Mahamat Saleh Annadif – the Republic of Chad under Secretary General of the United Nations and Special Representative held valuable discussions with the former Vice President, on the importance of sustaining democratic values in Nigeria and the West African subregion.
Also, the former Vice President equally recieved the Ambassadors from the Southern African Development Cooperation SADC in Nigeria, who paid him a courtesy visit in his residence.
In a goodwill message from the leader of the delegation, Ambassador of Botswana, Pule B. Mphothwe, the envoys felicitated with the former Vice President for emerging the Presidential flagbearer of his party and praised his resilience and determination in the growth of Nigerian democracy.
They acknowledged his friendship with the Southern African region which is strengthening the existing relations between Nigeria and the Southern African region.
Other members of the delegation included I. Paul – Angola, Boipelo Lefatshe – the South African High Commission to Nigeria, Amb Max Ranga from the Republic of Zimbabwe, Christian Kuyena Muzita – Head of Mission of the Democratic Republic of Congo amongst others.
In his remarks, the PDP Presidential Candidate appreciated the envoys for finding time to visit him, which he termed as remarkable and encouraging, especially at this time that the electioneering campaign has just began.
