The National President,Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union, COEASU,Dr Smart Olugbeko has said that the union would embark on Nationwide strike if government fail to fulfill the promises reached between them.
He stated this while briefing newsmen shortly after the zonal delegates Congress held at Federal College of Education zaria.
He said he attended the meeting to keep the Congress abreast on the lingering issues between the Federal government and the union.
He also said zonal delegates and other members of the union were sansitized over the union’s proposed nationwide strike if government reneges on its promises.
The president said the union would wait and see what the government has promised and how far the government has gone to fulfill such promises.
He said if government reneges on its promises,there is likelihood that the union would initiate the permissible trade union act that allow it to take further action.
Dr Olugbeko said by the time the union meet in March, the principal officers will present the issues to the meeting to discuss.
He said as of now the union have not heard from the government and the union have already made its position known to them since there is no any response.
The National President congratulated the Congress of Federal College of Education zaria on the appointment of the Provost and appointment of the Chairman of the union as the deputy Provost, pointing out that the appointment shows a synergy between the union and the management of the college.
