Dealing with insecurity is beyond the day to day affair we see from government that does not exceed condemning the act, paying ransom for abducted persons, giving marching orders and issuing security reports as insecurity devastates the land. This is not talking about the billions of naira being expended in the name of insecurity.
Indeed more needs to be done to exterminate the plight beyond the usual government protocols and softness that is more like hypocrisy.
It is as a result of this that banditry has eaten deep in the heart of the North, especially the Northwestern parts made up to Kaduna, Zamfara, Niger, Katsina, Sokoto and Kebbi states.
The terrorists/bandits have now created governments under the Nigerian government and are extorting citizens, collecting taxes from them due to lack of presence of government in the affected areas.
People get kidnapped in their hundreds and nothing happens as the relations of the victims are left with the job of raising millions of naira in ransom to free them while the government remains adamant.
As a people affected by the plight of persistent insecurity in Kaduna, we need something different to be done to fight it. It is against this background that I review some ideas made public by Senator Shehu Sani at different times on the issue.
Ambassador Kazaure and self-confessional misdeeds..
Shehu Sani has posted on his Facebook that a revolutionary force needs to be formed that will involve armed locals that will take the fight to the terrorists. This is indeed a good idea because the terrorists have only one advantage over the people which is that they are armed with guns.
Another issue he raised when he visited the Hizbah in Kano is that of running the Hizbah in its real form. Being that Sharia police, they should also be preaching and mobilizing the people against joining terrorism. They should preach against it and enlighten the public on the need to oppose it.
These two issues are very different from the ways the plight is being tackled by the authorities now. They look very effective because they address both the physical as well as the psychological aspect of the fight. It will certainly bring positive results in the end.
Unlike other politicians who have no idea what is happening, and still want to be governors in Kaduna state, Shehu Sani has made public positive ideas that will end terrorism/banditry and set the affected communities on another safety dimension, progress and development.
It is now the choice of the public to bring in Shehu Sani to resolve the problem for them or continue to even worse situations for indeed the he is the right man for the job. He remains the choice come 2023.
