The Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) Kano, has expressed its readiness and willingness to collaborate with the Nigerian Economic Society (NES) for the provision of quality education for economic growth and development of the country.
The President of the University, Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Israr gave the assurance while presenting a goodwill message at the 63rd annual conference of the society held on Tuesday, 27th September, 2022 at the Atiku Abubakar School of Social and Management Sciences.
He said MAAUN, which is an innovative University, is always ready to welcome every initiative that will improve access to affordable and quality education for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
He said the University would continue to support NES to ensure effective implementation of its programs as part of its contribution to enable the association to succeed.
Prof. Israr commended the association for its contribution to National growth and development as well as for holding the conference in the University which he noted would be of benefit to the University.
“We are grateful for this honor and hope that our Institution will be selected as the host of the upcoming conferences,” he said.
Earlier in her, remarks, President of the NES, Prof. Ummu Ahmed Jalingo said the conference with the theme: Fiscal Sustainability and Policy Response for Economic Recovery in Nigeria was designed to address specific issues, government policy responses to the fiscal sustainability challenges.
She expressed hope that the conference would also lead to far reaching outcomes for the policy makers, economic actors, industry and market players.
The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero represented by Sarkin Shanun Kano, Alhaji Shehu Mohammed Dankade called on participants to come up with useful recommendations that would guide the government towards implementation of good economic policies.
He also advised the government to seriously address the issue of tax evasion among its citizenry so as to improve the revenue base of the country.
During the occasion, important dignitaries from various Ministries, Departments and Agencies as well as many other stakeholders attended the conference.
