A Member of the Board of Trustees of the Arewa Consultative Forum( ACF), Retired Brigadier- General Haliru Akilu, has joined multitudes of Nigerians to hail the Kano Emirate Council for its choice of two new members to replace their predecessors.
In a congratulatory message, General Akilu described the appointment of Alhaji Abba Bashir Mahe Bashir to succeed his father as a ” deserved choice ” in view of his contributions to the social and economic upliftment of his immediate environment. On the former Walin Kano who recently retired voluntarily, he reviewed the immense contributeons the elder statesman had made to the maintenance of peace, law and order right from his days in the defunct Native Authority where he rose to the position of Chief of NA Police , up to the nation’s Police Force where he retired as a Deputy Inspector- General of Police.
General Akilu urged the new Wali to emulate those sterling qualities in public service and strive to render good services to Kano State and the nation. Turning to the new Sarkin Bai, General Akilu noted with delight, that Allah had chosen a biological son of the deceased nationalist, Alhaji Muhtar Adnan as Sarkin Bai to step into his shoes.
An International finance guru, renown Economist and academic, the new Sarkin Bai was a Director in the World Bank, and a former Finance Minister. General Akilu congratulated the new appointee and similarly enjoined him to emulate the good character, commitment and perseverance of his late father. He is currently Vice- President of the Islamic Development Bank.
