Kano state house of assembly (KNHA), has adopted a report in respect of the kano state child rights protection bill 2023.
This was sequel to a report presentation, by the deputy speaker and chairman house standing committee on women affairs, Alhaji Kabiru Hassan Dashi, during todays plenary session, presided over by the speaker Alhaji Hamisu Ibrahim Chidari.
According to the chairman, the bill had scaled 1st and 2nd reading in december 2020 and february 2021.
Alhaji Kabiru Hassan Dashi stressed that, a special three days retreat was organized in kaduna, where relevant stakeholders brainstormed on the child rights protection bill.
He pointed out that, in december 2022, a public hearing was organized by KNHA, where council of ulamas, representatives from kano state ministry of justice, FIDA,NAPTIP, NGOs and the public were given the oppurtunity to contribute their quota.
The chairman highlighted that, certain sections were removed to ensure that, the bill does not contradict the teachings of islam.
He stressed that, the law would protect the rights of children aginst all forms of molestation, and oppression to move the state forward.
After careful deliberations,the house adopted the report.
In another development, kano state free maternal and child healthcare bill, 2022 had scaled 2nd reading.
The bill introduced by the majority leader, Alhaji Labaran Abdul Madari seeks to address the major causes of mortality and morbidity, by providing access to free healthcare.
In his remarks, mover of the joint motion on free maternal and child healthcare, the deputy majority leader, Alhaji Magaji Dahiru Zarewa noted that, the bill would improve funding for healthcare,improve access and provide essential commodities in PHCs, increase accountability, equity and availability in the healthcare sector,among others.
Similarly, kano state contributory healthcare management agency amendment no.2 bill 2022, and kano state rural access roads agency bill, 2022 had scaled 1st reading on the floor of the house.
