The recent announcement of protests in Kano has raised concerns among experts, religious leaders, and citizens, urging for careful handling to avoid violence. The state’s fragile environment, plagued by politicization and neglect of education, makes it susceptible to unrest.
Factors contributing to the current tension include the emirate tussle, political battles, civil society division, economic disparities, educational neglect, elite selfishness, and poor data utilization.
Social media influencers and external forces have also exacerbated tensions, promoting sensational stories and exploiting local vulnerabilities.
To foster peaceful protests, authorities must ensure non-violent crowd control techniques, and transparent communication channels between protest organizers and the government. Protest organizers must prioritize safety and educate participants about their rights and responsibilities.
Understanding democracy and collective responsibility is crucial, and violent protests have far-reaching consequences, including disruption of daily life, fear, and insecurity.

Peaceful demonstrations are essential, providing a platform for individuals to voice opinions and demand accountability. Measures to prevent violence include dialogue, educational reforms, economic opportunities, community engagement, and responsible media use.
By prioritizing peace, Kano can set an example for other regions and pave the way for a more harmonious and prosperous future.
