The Kano State Government has expressed satisfaction with the conduct of this month’s environmental sanitation exercise, held today across the state, with special commendation to the Jakara-Kwanar Goda community for distinguishing itself through active participation and commitment.
The State Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Dahir Muhammad Hashim, represented by the Special Adviser to the Executive Governor on Environmental Sanitation, Engr. Abdullahi Shehu Bichi, made the commendation while leading an inspection team to monitor the exercise in different parts of Kano metropolis.
According to Engr. Bichi, the Jakara-Kwanar Goda community stood out among all the areas visited by mobilising large numbers of residents to clear drainages and clean their environment in what he described as “a commendable display of communal responsibility.”
The inspection team visited several key locations, including Iyaka Road, State Road to Ahmadu Bello Way, Murtala Muhammad Way to Bata Junction, Igbo Road to France Road, Jakara-Kwanar Goda, Mandawari Abdullahi Wase Road, and Emir’s Palace Road to State Road.
Speaking to journalists during the monitoring exercise, Engr. Bichi noted that overall compliance with the movement restriction order was impressive, with only a few cases of defaulters recorded.
He emphasized that the monthly exercise remained critical in ensuring public health, preventing flooding, and promoting a clean environment in the state.
In his remarks, the Vice Chairman of Dubai Market, Lawan Abdulkadir Musa, from Tudun-Nufawa Ward, explained that his community used the sanitation period to mobilise residents to tidy up their surroundings. “We consider it proper to take advantage of the movement restriction to improve our environment for the benefit of both the community and the state at large,” he said.
The inspection team included members of the Sanitation Committees, security agencies, Mobile Sanitation Court officials, journalists, and other stakeholders, all of whom observed the exercise firsthand.
The Kano State Government reiterated its call on communities to emulate the Jakara-Kwanar Goda example by taking ownership of sanitation activities to sustain a cleaner, healthier Kano.
