The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has announced the activation of comprehensive statewide security measures aimed at preventing and combating violent crimes across the state, in line with directives from the Nigeria Police Force.
In a press statement issued on Tuesday, the Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, disclosed that the Command has intensified intelligence-led policing and significantly enhanced patrol operations across all Local Government Areas to ensure maximum safety of lives and property.
According to the statement, security personnel have been strategically deployed to high-risk areas, including farmlands, forests, waterways, and major access routes, which are now under continuous day and night surveillance.
The Command emphasized that these measures are designed to proactively detect and neutralize criminal threats before they escalate.
As part of the renewed security architecture, special intelligence-driven stop-and-search operations have been introduced at critical points across the state. Tactical units and patrol teams have also been repositioned to boost visibility and guarantee rapid response to emergencies.
The Police Command further highlighted its strengthened collaboration with key security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, Defence Intelligence Agency, Department of State Services, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
This inter-agency synergy, the Command noted, is crucial for seamless intelligence sharing and coordinated joint operations across Akwa Ibom.
In addition to operational strategies, the Command has intensified community engagement and public sensitisation campaigns. Residents were urged to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities.
Traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups, and other stakeholders were also called upon to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information.
To facilitate swift response to distress situations, the Police released dedicated emergency contact numbers for public use: 08039213071, 08028916010, 08020913810, 09040000065, and 09169839215.
The Command assured that all reports received through these lines would be handled with urgency and strict confidentiality.
CP Azare issued a stern warning to criminal elements to desist from unlawful activities or face decisive consequences, reiterating the Command’s zero tolerance for acts capable of undermining peace and security in the state.
The Police also cautioned residents against spreading or relying on unverified information, urging the public to depend solely on official communications from recognized security agencies.
Reaffirming its commitment, the Command stated that it will continue to operate with renewed determination to ensure a safe and secure environment for all residents of Akwa Ibom State.
The statement was signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Timfon John, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police.
