Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has laid the foundation for the construction of a new secondary school at Kaura Goge in Nasarawa Local Government Area.
Speaking at the ceremony, the governor said the decision to build a new school followed complaints from residents over the condition of the old facility and the difficulty students face in accessing education within the area.
Yusuf noted that students from the community had been forced to travel long distances, including to Sabon Gari, to attend school, stressing that the new project would address the challenge and improve access to education.
He also disclosed that the Maikwatashi school property had been handed over to the Kano State Colleges of Arts and Islamic Studies (CAS) for educational use.
The governor called on residents to cooperate with the contractor to ensure smooth execution of the project, while urging the contractor to deliver quality work.
The Commissioner for Education, Goni Ali Haruna Makoda, said the project would cost N1.3 billion and would include 32 classrooms, 36 toilets and four libraries, among other facilities.
Makoda described the project as a fulfilment of the governor’s promise to improve educational infrastructure in the state.
The project is aimed at replacing the former Maikwatashi School, which had become dilapidated and was affected by encroachment, with parts of its land allegedly sold off illegally by unscrupulous individuals.
