A coalition of youth and student groups in Kano State has called on political stakeholders to ensure fairness, equity and reward for loyalty in the allocation of the Kano Central Senatorial ticket.
The groups, including Coalition for Better Kano, Concern Kano Citizens, National Association of Nigerian Students Kano Axis, National Association of Kano State Students, and other northern student stakeholders, made their position known in a statement issued in Kano.
The coalition said it was closely monitoring political developments, particularly speculations surrounding the possible allocation of the ticket to Ibrahim Shekarau following his return to the party.
While acknowledging Shekarau as a respected elder statesman, the group stressed that political justice requires recognition and reward for loyalty and commitment to the party.
It cited the contributions of key party figures, including Murtala Sule Garo and Abdulsalam Abdulkarim Zaura, noting that both individuals played significant roles in the party’s success during critical periods.
The coalition argued that with Garo assuming office as Deputy Governor, it would be fair to grant Zaura the opportunity to re-contest the Kano Central Senatorial seat, describing such a move as just and equitable.
It also urged party leaders to avoid decisions that could be perceived as undermining loyal members, warning that sidelining committed stakeholders in favour of new entrants could send negative signals about internal party values.
The group further appealed to Shekarau to demonstrate leadership by ensuring that his influence is not used in a manner that could create disaffection within party ranks.
The statement, signed by Inyass Muhammad Auwal, added that the youth and student community in Kano would closely watch the party’s final decision, expressing hope that it would reflect fairness and justice.
